Koom Recovery’s mission is to empower the Hmong Community to overcome the hardships of substance use disorder, support all pathways to recovery, and strive to break the silence and stigma. As the Board of Directors, we are committed to upholding this mission and ensuring the organization’s fidelity.
Due to recent events, allegations have been made towards two of our founders. The Board had no prior knowledge of these events, nor was it involved in them. At this time, we do not have any further information about the events.
In our commitment to serving the community, we believe the best path forward is to dissolve Koom Recovery. This is a difficult decision. Koom Recovery has helped countless people access treatment, recovery support, housing, and other critical services, provided basic necessities to our unhoused community members, and advocated on behalf of members navigating complex systems of care. We are proud of the work Koom Recovery has accomplished, but the trust placed in us by our participants, volunteers, and supporters has been broken.
We offer our deepest apologies and acknowledge the pain and frustration within the community, especially among those who depended upon Koom’s support services. We are working to connect our participants to alternative resources as we close our programs.
Although Koom Recovery can no longer exist, we remain committed to its mission and support community members and organizations that can continue this work. We hope that someday substance use disorder will no longer be a taboo topic, and that all who struggle with substance use disorder can heal and break free from its hardships.
